HOPE Gathering

Celebration of 1st year of workshops and exhibition
Newquay

Creating art for the community by the community, Newquay Renaissance Project’s aims to transform Newquay into the Creative Capital of Cornwall

Our celebration was full of laughter, fond reminiscence and most importantly HOPE for the future.

Artist Matt Jukes, www.mattjukes.ink, who conducted the NRP Mural workshop in November returned to Newquay

especially for the gathering.

Local artist Sam Millington, Instagram Account, Exhibited her work together with the collage created from beach waste in the NRP Love your beaches - Marine conversation workshop in April.

Local artist Shelly CooK, www.shellycookabstractart.co.uk, exhibited her work together with her new sunflower painting to raise funds for Ukraine as well as a selection of ceramic plaques which were made in NRP ceramic workshops.

Some of the amazing local young people who participated in our workshops came along to celebrate.

It was a gathering of people who had supported our project throughout the year as well as new friends interested in getting involved in our project in 2023.

The highlight of of the evening was Alissa Kindred Elliot reciting her new poem ‘HOPE’ which shew wrote especially for our HOPE Gathering.

A mounted fine art paper print of Alissa’s poem was auctioned to raise fund for Ukraine. A delighted Claire from Cafe on the Corner in Newquay came in with the highest bid. This beautiful print is currently displayed at Cafe on the corner Link to Cafe.

Thanks to Chard, Hannah and Les for making the HOPE Gathering such a truly magical evening.

Here is a short video of the evening filmed by local filmmaker Ollie Treacher.
